FAQs About ICF Certification

11. FAQs About ICF Certification

Straight answers to your most common questions.

Whether you're just starting your coaching journey or exploring the next step, it's natural to have questions. Here are clear, concise answers to the most frequently asked ones:

What’s the difference between an ICF-accredited program and an ICF credential?
  • An ICF-accredited program is a training course that meets ICF’s standards for coach education.
  • An ICF credential is a professional designation (ACC, PCC, or MCC) you apply for through the ICF after completing training, experience hours, mentoring, and assessment.

Think of training as the course, and the credential as your official badge of mastery.

Can I get certified without ICF training?

No — not through the ICF.

ICF credentials require you to complete a Level 1, 2, or 3 program that is officially accredited. Training from non-accredited sources won't qualify unless you go through a much more complex and expensive “portfolio path.”

How long does it take to get ICF certified?

It depends on:

  • The level of credential (ACC, PCC, or MCC)
  • The pace of your training and practice
  • How quickly you log your client hours and complete mentor coaching

For ACC (entry-level), many coaches complete the process within 6–12 months. PCC and MCC take longer based on experience requirements.

We’ll help you design a timeline that works with your lifestyle and coaching goals.

How much does it cost to get ICF certified?

Costs vary depending on:

  • The training program tuition
  • The mentor coaching fees
  • The ICF application fee (which ranges from $175–$775 USD, depending on your credential level and path)

We offer bundled programs that include training, mentor coaching, and support — so there are no surprise costs.

Is ICF recognized in Thailand?

Yes. ICF is a globally recognized body with coaches and accredited programs in over 140 countries. It’s widely respected by corporations, NGOs, schools, and coaching firms across continents.

Whether you're in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, or the Americas — ICF credentials are a clear, portable signal of professional coaching excellence.

Do I need a background in psychology or HR to become a coach?

No. Coaching is a distinct discipline. People come to coaching from all kinds of fields: business, healthcare, education, law, tech, and more. What matters most is your ability to learn, reflect, and serve others.

What support will I get on the certification journey?
